This year saw the second Christmas Tree Festival at St Paul's, our first was in 2012.
We are very grateful for the generous sponsorship and help with decoration from wide range of individuals, organisations and local businesses. We were able to secure sponsorship for 26 trees, and the standard of decoration was impressive.
Despite the poor weather, plenty of people came to see the trees, vote for their favourite tree and participate in the various events:
- On the Friday evening we were splendidly entertained by the Derbyshire Constabulary Male Voice Choir, followed by mince pies and mulled wine
- During the Saturday afternoon children from Mrs Englefield's recorder group came and played for us and the HOW puppets also did a short medley of Christmas songs
- On Sunday morning we had our All Age Service amongst the trees, and the evening concluded with an informal Christmas Sing (a short time of carols and readings).
By a significant margin, the favourite tree was that decorated by the Women's Institute; everyone loved the hand knitted decorations - well done!
The event raised £1000 towards our renovation appeal -
OUR GRATEFUL THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED.
